Shirley Dex is a member of the Senior Management Team of the Centre. She is an interdisciplinary economist and sociologist, currently Emeritus Professor at the Institute of Education based in the Centre for Longitudinal Studies and the Childhood Wellbeing Research Centre (CWRC). She held the post of Professor of Longitudinal Social Research at the Institute of Education until 2010 and was Director of a teaching Programme on research methods for policy analysis and evaluation, devised originally for UK Government Social Researchers. Her role in CWRC is to advise on the availability and potential of longitudinal data sets to address topics relating to childhood wellbeing. She also offers advice on multivariate research analysis methods and economic, and her expertise on parental employment and combining paid work and unpaid care.
